Guiding Light Pshychology

FAQs

I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

Not at all. I see asking for help as a sign of awareness and courage, not weakness. I believe everyone needs support at different points in life.
In my work with you, I help you explore your strengths and understand how to use them to ease the challenges you are carrying.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

The difference lies in my professional training, clinical expertise, and ability to guide meaningful change. Therapy is not simply a space to vent, it is a structured process led by a trained mental health professional who helps you better understand your thoughts, emotions, and patterns.

I help you approach your situation from new perspectives, develop practical skills, and gain deeper self-awareness. I listen without judgment or expectations, while also guiding you in ways that support real, lasting progress.

I provide a fully confidential space where you can speak openly without concern about others knowing your personal experiences. While friends and family can offer support, those relationships can sometimes become emotionally complicated, especially when difficult topics are involved. Therapy provides a neutral, consistent space focused entirely on your growth, without placing strain on your personal relationships.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Medication can be effective, but it is not always a complete solution on its own. In many cases, it works best alongside therapy. I help you explore and understand the challenges you are experiencing, while also building on your strengths to support you in achieving your personal goals.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Because each person has different concerns and goals for counseling, the process varies from person to person. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs.

How long will it take?

Unfortunately, this is not something I can define in a general FAQ. Everyone’s circumstances are unique, and the length of time therapy takes depends on your goals, your commitment, and the factors that bring you to counseling in the first place.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

I am glad you are committed to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and willingness to engage in the process play an important role in your progress.
